Gum disease starts when plaque (a soft, sticky film filled with bad bacteria) builds up under and along the gum line. It can cause infections leading to gum disease and tooth decay. Plaque can also cause ‘gingivitis’ which is the earliest stage of gum disease and will present itself as gums that are tender, swollen and susceptible to bleeding.
Further still, we want to care for your whole family, and so encourage children to be brought to the surgery from a young age, to get them used to the environment and to start to instil positive oral hygiene and dietary habits. We proudly support the NHS Health Scotland initiative ‘Childsmile’.
